New York City, New York Oct 7, 2024 (Issuewire.com) - Dr. Mark R. Milunski, the esteemed Chief of Cardiology at the Orlando VA Medical Center, has announced his upcoming transition back to Washington University School of Medicine in January 2025 as a clinical cardiologist in the Cardiovascular Division. With an impressive 34-year career in the healthcare industry, Dr. Milunski has established himself as a leader in the field of cardiology, combining clinical excellence with profound dedication to patient care and medical education.

Since joining the Orlando VA Medical Center in 2014, Dr. Milunski has played a pivotal role in the administration and expansion of the Cardiology Section, transforming it into one of the largest and busiest cardiology departments within the VA system. His clinical responsibilities encompass general and consultative cardiology, allowing him to impact the lives of veterans directly through comprehensive cardiovascular care.

Dr. Milunski's medical journey began with inspiration from a cardiologist's neighbor. He pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1976 and a Master's in Biology from Wagner College in 1978. He earned his Medical Degree from Albany Medical College in 1984 and completed an internal medicine residency at Duke University School of Medicine in 1987. His extensive training continued with a cardiovascular disease fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, where he honed his expertise in heart failure and cardiac transplantation.

Before his tenure at the Orlando VA Medical Center, Dr. Milunski spent over two decades in private practice, significantly contributing to the Florida Heart Group and the Florida Hospital Medical Group. As a partner in that practice, he demonstrated a commitment to patient-centered care, which has remained the cornerstone of his professional philosophy.

In addition to his clinical role, Dr. Milunski is a Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, where he is dedicated to shaping the next generation of physicians. His awaited return to Washington University School of Medicine will further enhance his involvement in graduate medical education, directing training programs for fellows in cardiovascular diseases and residents in internal medicine.

Various organizations have recognized Dr. Milunskis commitment to excellence. He is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine, an active member of the American Heart Association, and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Physicians. His accolades include being named a Regional Top Doctor in 2013 and 2014, the Best Doctor in America in 2011, and the Physician of the Quarter in 2002.

Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Milunski enjoys spending quality time with his family, traveling, hiking, and engaging with nature. He remains an avid reader of professional literature, particularly the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and Circulation.

As he prepares for this new chapter in his career, Dr. Milunski reflects on his achievements with gratitude and an unwavering focus on patient care. He remains committed to expanding the capabilities of the Cardiology Section at the Orlando VA Healthcare System until his transition, ensuring that veterans receive the highest standard of cardiovascular care.
